Seven reasons to buy the Nokia Lumia 920

The Nokia Lumia 920 was shown off in New York last week and after checking out all of the coverage, I can say without a doubt that I will be purchasing one as soon as they are released. The color I choose will depend on which carrier(s) in the US get the high end Lumia, but with three carrier contracts I know at least one of my carriers will get the device. Based on just what we know so far, Microsoft was very tight lipped about Windows Phone 8, I have seven main reasons I think the Lumia 920 is the device for me. Reason one: PureMotion HD+ display The Nokia Lumia 900 has a ClearBlack display and some testing earlier this year revealed that the Lumia 900 has a better outdoor display than the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S. Nokia is now taking that ClearBlack display technology to the next level and showed us all their PureMotion HD+ technology that looks to be the leading display on smartphones today. How to Block Useless Websites from your Google Search Results

Block Websites from appearing in your Google Search Results Google has been getting better at identifying and removing spam websites from their search results pages but sometimes not-so-useful sites do manage to slip through the Google filters. What can you do to prevent such sites from appearing in your Google results? → Approach #1: Block Sites at the Browser Level  Google offers an easy-to-use Chrome add-on called Personal Blocklist that lets you block entire web domains from showing up in your Google search results. If you spot any irrelevant website in search results pages, just click the block link (screenshot below) and all pages from that website will be hidden from your Google results forever. The Chrome add-on implements client-side filtering – the blocked websites are still getting served in Google search results as before and the add-on simply hides them on your screen using CSS. A limitation with this approach is that it works only inside Google Ch

Microsoft's New Logo released

Let’s admit it, Microsoft is gearing up for one hell of a year. The company has adopted a new design language, formerly known as Metro, through out its entire product line up. It is only apt that now this very design language is trickling down to the company’s official logo. This change comes 25 years after Microsoft had unveiled it previous logo. The new logo integrates a multi-color Windows logo as well, that also highlights the fact that Windows is the flagship product for Microsoft. Clearly this is the biggest year in the history of Microsoft and we are seeing an unprecedented level of integration in its entire product line. All products including Windows, Windows Phone, Office, Outlook.com , Skydrive, Xbox and Windows Azure are in for a revamp and the adoption of the new ‘Metro’ like logo is seem like the final culmination of this integration.

7 Essential Tips for Picking a Student Laptop

If I had been drinking something at the time, I would have spit it all over my screen. That's because I was reading a laptop buying guide that was so superficial, so full of errors, half-truths and oversimplifications, that I couldn't believe my eyes. I won't name any names (cough, The New York Times), but this was my favorite gem: "Most flash drives still exceed 300 gigabytes, which is enough for most people." Um, actually most SSDs start at 128GB. Here's another: "Battery life specs mean little. Have a power cord with you." Oh, and the processor doesn't matter at all. If I were a parent reading a guide like that heading into the back-to-school season, I would have just thrown up my hands and did some eerie eeny-meeny-miny-mo at Best Buy. But you don't have to. Just follow my simple buying tips. 1. Choose The Right Size Although 15-inch laptops tend to be the cheapest, 13- and 14-inch models are better for students on the go be
